Students can be encouraged to write about things by creating class newspaper. It can promote collaboration and increase students’ engagement, and motivation.
This year, I will start this project in my school. According to the project, every class is expected to publish a newspaper monthly. All the students will be participating in the process. The newspaper is divided into sections which will be shared between students. Some sections may require hard work such as research and interview. However, it would be weird to expect students to act like professional journalists. The newspaper is something in which students have a chance to show off what they have learned. Teachers will collect the articles written by students and designed them according to the newspaper type.
Some tips to write
- News – What happened lately. (Global, National, Citywide or School News)
- Announcements – What’s coming up, any updates or events students should be aware of
- Interviews with the principal, a teacher, a famous person etc.
- Editorials – write about you thoughts and ideas
- Reviews about books or movies
- Puzzles to be created by students
- Comic Strips
- Adverts

The wall newspaper may have to be present in school life for some time before other teachers will be sufficiently convinced of its worth to join in.
