Technology is clearly bringing expanded opportunities to learners both within and beyond the boundaries of our language classrooms. Technology enhanced language learning is an effective way of increasing knowledge in teaching and learning. That’s why; I’m trying to integrate technology  in/out of the classroom as much as possible. I definitely benefit from technology in different aspects of learning and teaching. Websites written below are the part of my effort on this issue. Through these websites, students are more attentive and engaged in learning.  It is a list of tools they can use whenever they need without teachers’ assistance. Give the list to  students, let them take responsibility of their own learning.

Language Learning Platforms

British Council Learn English features listening, speaking, reading, writing, games, test preparation and more.

BBC Learn English is an English learning platform that features news reports, podcasts, videos and more.

VOA Learn American English helps you learn English with listening and vocabulary. The activities are provided in different levels (Advanced, Intermediate, Beginner).

English Central is created to improve listening, speaking, pronunciation and vocabulary. Student learn through videos then speak using the video.

Dualingo is a completely free language learning website offers 10 language courses with digital assessments. The education is based on translation and vocabulary through drills. The language app is also available in mobile phones.

Utalk is a platform for those who want to learn key words and phrases in other languages.

Busuu is a paid language learning platform. It is designed to improve speaking skills through the speech recognition tool in the system. The education is based on listening to dialogues. There are around 1000 lessons created by experts in 9 languages.

Memrise is a free language learning platform. Its distinct feature is memory techniques in vocabulary learning. The language is served with videos, audios, images and activities. 

Using English provides a large and growing collection of English as a Second Language (ESL) tools & resources for students.

Voscreen helps you improve your English language skills on your own through short video clips.

ESL Video provides free ESL video lessons and listening activities for teaching and learning English.

Ello is an online library with listening lessons.

Lyrics Training is ideal for music lovers. It has a karaoke style with gaps for you to write the missing words or multiple choice options.

Ted Talk is a nonprofit website devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). English language learners can improve their listening, vocabulary and comprehension through these videos.

Rachel’s English helps you to improve your pronunciation. It provides over 500 free videos on a variety of topics from the correct mouth position of sounds to words that reduce and real English conversation study.

Read Theory provides reading comprehension exercises — online, free, personalized & adaptive.

Breaking News has English news readings and listening. There is a news lesson every two days on news stories from across the world.

Vocabulary
